Firstly, apologies for the appearance of the blog. I’ve been gone a while and everything’s changed! I’ll try to suss it out before my next post.

In an attempt to drag the Wildthings out of their post-camping holiday slump on the sofa, and having already exhausted the dog-walking/going to the park options, we did some (slightly experimental) messy play in the garden. I put paint onto a tray, covered it in flour and supplied them with bottles of water, teaspoons and yoghurt pots. After a while I added a bowl of soapy water… then another. After they’d had their fill of the messy fun, we hosed everything down. At this point I made the mistake of trusting a four year old boy to hold the hosepipe. Result… a jet of water in the side of the head, obviously!

Oooarrrr! Ahoy there Jimlad!

Is that how pirates speak?! We all had cabin fever after illness that’s lasted since Easter, so fresh air was the order of the day. Fresh air and pirates! With a little reminder of how to make a pirate hat¬†and a bit of cunning with a cardboard box to make a treasure chest, our pirate adventure was born. Unfortunately, it was a bit scuppered by the icy rain, so became an indoor hunt for tinfoil wrapped edible treasure and a carpet picnic. No matter, hats and telescopes (or spyglasses as the Wildthings call them, thanks to the Octonauts) are always fun and we did finally make it to the park a bit later. We’ll be doing this again when the weather improves. I have some ideas for fun treasure food!
